Whew! I made it! I made it 36 weeks with no mandatory bedrest. I made it 36 weeks and was still able to make dinner for my family (not very well, but still). I made it 36 weeks and was still able to tend to Wyatt and be there for him. I made it 36 weeks and managed to walk my dogs maybe once or twice a week. I made it 36 weeks and was able to decorate my baby's nursery.
Yes, I was uncomfortable most of the time. There were painful contractions, headaches, carpal tunnel, and yesterday my doctor told me my toes looked like "snausages." But there are some women who have morning sickness for the entire 9 months. There are some women who have IVs in their legs 24-7 pumping in anti-contraction medicine. There are some women laying on their backs in hospital beds, just hoping and praying they have healthy babies. I know how blessed I am.
My mom asked me if this baby didn't come as soon as we all think it will, will I be ok continuing on with the discomfort? And though it would be an enormous pain and inconvenience, already I am relaxed because the mental anguish is gone. With every contraction, I would worry about the development of my baby. In my mind I was always thinking, "Just make it to 36 weeks. You've got to make it to 36 weeks." There was always the worry, with every doctors visit that I going to be told I needed to go on bedrest. And now, I can breathe. At my last doctor's visit yesterday, I was measuring exactly right, I was 50% effaced, I have started dilated just slightly, and my doctor told me to stop my medication. I'm ok and if my baby was born tonight, he would be ok too. So come on into the world, Carter. We're ready for you!
