I hate talking on the phone. Let me rephrase that, I detest calling people on the phone. If I have a question, I have to practice my words in my head before I pick up the phone. I have this fear of being rejected or told "no" over the phone. I guess because I'm not there to read the facial expression of the person I'm talking to. Facial expressions are the number one way I can communicate with someone (so imagine my frustration when someone shows no emotion). I don't even enjoy calling friends on the phone for fear that the conversation will feel forced or I might be interrupting them. My point of this rant? Was there one? Oh yeah, so I've spent the last week making phone calls just trying to get an appointment with my thyroid guy. These are just a list of things I was told by people over the phone this week:
- You can't get an appointment without a referral
- We don't do referrals
- Can't get an appointment without lab results
- OK, we'll send the lab results
- The insurance is questioning some of the fertility meds, do you still want them?
- You can have the appointment, but not until March
- We'll get Dr. Shapiro to call the thyroid guy
- UPS will be delivering your meds, here is the 5 million number long tracking number, don't you dare leave your house. No signature, no meds.
- A doctor told my sister-in-law she might have to have her thyroid cut out (EWW!) but she just had to take a pill (whew!)
I think I'll take the phone off the hook this afternoon. Just send me an email if you want something.
